CIRCUS OF PSYCHE

My portfolio draws inspiration from Carl Jung’s psychological concepts, especially archetypes and the collective unconscious, which I first encountered in a literature class. Through grayscale ink illustrations, I explored Jung’s archetypes—the shadow, persona, self, and the anima/animus—each with a unique tone to them.

For instance, dark tones in “The Shadow Within” represent hidden aspects of the self, while lighter tones in “The Performance of the Persona” reflect the outward-facing personality. In “The Balance of the Anima and Animus,” I illustrated the interplay of masculine and feminine qualities, and in “The Ringmaster of the Self,” I symbolized wholeness and unity through circles and an interwoven black-and-white costume. The ego, depicted in “The Child of the Carousel,” represents the central bridge between inner and outer worlds.

Additionally, Jung’s twelve archetypes appear in “Archetypes and the Masks” as masked characters, while “Remembered” and “The Collector” portray the personal and collective unconscious, with hidden toy rabbits symbolizing a shared human psyche across all images. This project was both a mental and creative journey, allowing me to delve into Jung’s ideas and bring them to life through pen and ink.
